5 Powerful Career Lessons
- Value Authenticity People respect leaders who they can trust Those who listen, think strategically and build genuine connections. Being authentic fosters trust and credibility. "In my career, I've found that people respond to authenticity more than perfection," Silvana notes. "They want to work with real people, not perfect ones."
- Take Control of Your Career Own your journey. If things don't go as planned, remember that you have the power to pivot, adapt and redefine your path. "Your career is yours to steer," says Silvana. "When I faced setbacks, I focused on what I could control and created new opportunities for myself."
- Accept your Vulnerability Recognise that we are stronger together and don’t be afraid to put your hand up when you need support. True resilience isn't about going about it alone - it's about knowing when to ask for help. As Silvana puts it, "The strongest leaders I know aren't afraid to say 'I don't have all the answers.' That vulnerability actually builds stronger teams."
- Don't Fear Standing Out Whether it's your accent, background, or perspective - what makes you different is also what makes you unique and valuable. Turn challenges into opportunities. "My accent was initially something I worried about," Silvana shares. "Now I realise it signals my individual perspectives and global experience."
- De-Personalise Criticism High-pressure environments can lead to tough conversations. Don't take things personally – try to find solutions, don’t focus on the negative tones. "In this industry, things move quickly and feedback can be direct," Silvana explains. "Learning to separate professional feedback from personal worth can be liberating."
